“OKEOGUN IN CRISIS! ASSEMBLY MINORITY LEADER CRIES OUT FOR MAKINDE’S URGENT HELP AFTER DESTRUCTIVE FLOODS WASH AWAY BRIDGES”
GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–THE Oyo State House of Assembly Minority Leader, Hon. Waliu Salami, has raised a matter of urgent public importance, appealing to Governor Seyi Makinde to come to the aid of the people of Kisi and Igboho communities. According to him, the communities are facing severe difficulties following the collapse of two critical bridges that connect Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho and Kisi-Igbope-Saki roads in the Oke-Ogun axis of the State. While reading the Motion on the floor of the House on Tuesday, Hon. Waliu Salami said the bridges collapsed due to heavy downpour in the early hours of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, leading to devastating floods that ravaged the ongoing construction of the Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road.
The House notes that Oke-Ogun is an agrarian community with potential for food supply chains to the State capital, Ibadan. The recent collapse of the bridges will likely skyrocket the price of goods, especially agricultural produce, if urgent and proactive action is not taken by the government.
The Motion urged Governor Seyi Makinde to direct the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to mobilize the contractor handling the Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho road to urgently move to the collapsed portion of the Ogun River bridge for temporary palliative pending total reconstruction of the damaged bridge.
The House also appealed to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to conduct a spot assessment of the collapsed bridge that links Kisi-Igbope (Igboho)-Saki road with a view to raising a Bill of Quantity (BOQ) for urgent reconstruction of the bridge to ease vehicular movement of agricultural produce and people in that axis.
Furthermore, the House directed the Chairman of Irepo Local Government Area to urgently swing into action to rehabilitate the collapsed bridge along Ajangba to National Open University Road, Kisi, to ease vehicular movement and reinforce economic activities within the area.
The House equally implored the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other emergency response agencies in the State to activate preparedness and response protocols in mitigating all emergency situations that may arise across Local Government Areas in the State
