“AFRILAND TOWERS FIRE: UBA’s TONY ELUMELU REVEALS BANK STAFF AMONG DEAD, APOLOGISES FOR INITIAL INSENSITIVITY”

GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–Bank for Africa (UBA) Chairman, Tony Elumelu, has confirmed that some of the bank’s staff members were among the victims of the devastating Afriland Towers fire. In a statement, Elumelu expressed regret over the tragedy and apologized for the bank’s initial response, which was criticized for being insensitive to the loss of staff lives.
Key Highlights:
– Staff Among Victims: Elumelu acknowledged that UBA lost colleagues in the fire, expressing grief and solidarity with the families of the victims.
– Apology for Initial Response: The chairman distanced himself from the bank’s earlier statement, which focused on customer safety without addressing staff casualties.
– Support for Families: UBA has pledged to support the families and loved ones of the staff members who lost their lives in the tragedy.
In a message posted on X, the Chairman, Tony Elumelu, acknowledged that UBA, like other organisations housed in the building, lost employees in the blaze.
“The past few hours have been tough. We and others lost colleagues in the fire at Afriland Towers. As a community, we are grieving for all and doing what we can to support their families and loved ones,” he wrote.
He also distanced himself from the bank’s earlier press release, which merely assured customers of safety at its branch while failing to address staff casualties.
“I also saw the initial statement from the comms team at @UBAGroup, which was put out in haste, without understanding the full gravity of what happened. This is regrettable. The statement does not reflect how deeply saddened we are,” Elumelu added.
