DANGOTE’S PETITION AGAINST NMDPRA CEO FAROUK AHMED: ICPC LAUNCHES PROBE

GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest businessman, has filed a petition against Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), alleging corruption and abuse of office.
KEY ISSUES:
– Allegation : Dangote accuses Ahmed of spending over $7 million on his children’s education in Switzerland without evidence of lawful income.
– Abuse of Office : Ahmed allegedly used NMDPRA to embezzle and divert public funds for personal gain.
– ICPC Response : The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed receipt of the petition and will investigate.
– Possible Consequences : If found guilty, Ahmed faces up to 5 years in prison without option of fine under Section 19 of the ICPC Act.
– House of Representatives Intervention : The House has summoned Dangote and Ahmed to appear before its Joint Committees on Petroleum Resources

“The ICPC wishes to state that the petition will be duly investigated,” the statement added.
The confirmation by the ICPC comes amid heightened public scrutiny over regulatory transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, particularly following recent public allegations that have drawn national attention to the operations of key regulatory agencies.
