DSS DG AJAYI PLEDGES TO CHAMPION MEDIA FREEDOM
GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–THE Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, has pledged to foster a more enabling environment for journalists and media professionals to carry out their duties in Nigeria.
KEY ISSUES:
– Commitment to Media Freedom : Ajayi vowed to “champion fair treatment of journalists and create a conducive atmosphere for them to carry out their legitimate duties” in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s drive to protect all Nigerians.
– Engagement with Security Agencies: Ajayi has initiated engagements with heads of other security agencies to prioritize protection and fair treatment of journalists nationwide.
– IPI Award : Ajayi received a commendation award from the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria for his commitment to media freedom and safety of journalists.
– President Tinubu’s Support : President Tinubu congratulated Ajayi on the award, urging other security agencies to emulate the DSS example and engage the media as partners, not adversaries
According to IPI Nigeria, since his appointment as Director-General of the Service in late August 2024, Ajayi has demonstrated “an unmistakable commitment to press freedom and respect for journalists and media organisations.”
