EXCLUSIVE : WHY MICROFINANCE LENDER AZEEZ ADEPOJU WAS MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD IN RIVERS STATE

GREATRIBUNETVNEWS has unravel circumstances the circumstances that led to the gruesome murded of a Rivers State–based microfinance lender, Azeez Adepoju, popularly known as the founder of WAPSI, who was abducted in Ahoada, Rivers State on November 27, 2025.
According to multiple eyewitnesses who spoke to our correspondent, Adepoju was waylaid by unknown assailants and taken to a nearby forest, where he was brutally murdered. His badly mutilated body was later recovered on December 2, 2025 by a local vigilante group, with the support of the police.
The deceased has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Speaking after the incident, Adepoju’s wife [ names withheld ] alleged that her husband had previously received repeated threats from individuals affiliated with the Salafi sect. She claimed that he had been warned on several occasions to stop offering microfinance loans to women, and that his attackers had vowed to “make an example” of him if he failed to comply.
The killing has sparked renewed concern among residents and civil society observers over the apparent rise in hate-filled and religiously motivated violence in parts of the country. Many have also expressed alarm over what they describe as the limited capacity of law enforcement agencies and the judicial system to effectively investigate such crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police on arrests or ongoing investigations.
