OSIMHEN’S AFCON MELTDOWN: “I’M DONE WITH SUPER EAGLES”
GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker, threatened to quit the national team and return to Galatasaray after a heated altercation with Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique at AFCON 2025
KEY ISSUES:
– Altercation with Lookman : Osimhen lashed out at Lookman for failing to pass to him in the 64th minute, saying “listen to me, it is a team game”.
– Substitution : Osimhen beckoned on the bench asking to be taken off and was replaced by Moses Simon.
– Storms Out of Stadium : At full time, Osimhen stormed out of the stadium, dropped his accreditation card, and insisted he was “done” with the national team.
– Lookman’s Response : Lookman downplayed the incident, saying “it’s just football” and “he is my brother”.
– Coach’s Reaction : Head coach Eric Chelle stressed that what happens on the pitch stays there, saying “what happened on the pitch will stay with the group”
He was later pacified by senior officials of the Nigeria Football Federation.
