FUMES OF DEATH: FAMILY OF SIX FOUND DEAD IN RIVERS STATE HOME

GREATRIBUNTVNEWS–A family of six, including a father, mother, and four children, were found dead in their home in Ogale community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, suspected to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Key Issues:
– Cause of Death : Preliminary investigations suggest possible generator fume poisoning as the cause of death. “The family’s generator was reportedly switched on and placed inside the parlour before they retired to bed,” said CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, Police Public Relations Officer.
– Discovery : The victims were discovered dead in their locked apartment about 3pm on January 11, 2026, after repeated knocks on the door by co-tenants yielded no response.
– Victims: The deceased include Theophilus Obele (49), Eunice Obele (35), Saka Obele (18), Peace Obele (14), Nyimenka Obele (7), and Abel Nwaka (25).
– Investigation: The bodies have been deposited at the Last Home Mortuary, Ebubu Eleme, for autopsy, while photographic evidence is being taken to support ongoing investigations.
– Warning: Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, advises residents to place generators in well-ventilated outdoor areas, warning that placing generators in sitting rooms, garages, sheds, or enclosed spaces can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning and death
CP Adepoju said: “This dangerous practice has claimed many lives.
“Residents must prioritise their safety and that of their families
