“LOGISTICAL HURDLES: PETER OBI BREAKS SILENCE ON MISSING BUHARI’S FUNERAL”
GREATRIBNUNETVNEWS–Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has finally spoken out about his absence from former President Muhammadu Buhari’s funeral. Obi cited logistical challenges, specifically the closure of Katsina Airport to regular traffic, which made it difficult for him to attend the ceremony in Daura, Katsina State.
The Reason Behind Obi’s Absence
Obi explained that the airport closure, which was done to prioritize the arrival of high-profile dignitaries, left him with no viable option to attend the funeral. Despite his desire to pay his respects, the circumstances made it impossible for him to be there.
Paying Respects
Although Obi missed the formal ceremony, he visited Daura after the burial to pay his respects to the late president’s family. He emphasized that paying respects isn’t confined to the actual burial day, as traditional mourning periods extend beyond the day of interment.
Conclusion
Obi’s explanation sheds light on the challenges he faced in attending the funeral. His actions demonstrate respect for the late president and his family, even if it wasn’t possible to attend the ceremony itself.
Obi has been criticised for his absence from the event.
Obi, who was able to make it to Daura on Wednesday, where he commiserated with the family of the late former President, however claimed that he could not get a flight to Katsina.
According to Obi, “It was difficult to come yesterday (Tuesday) because there was no flight.
“Even if there was a flight, you couldn’t land in Katsina Airport. It was all closed, because there were a lot of dignitaries.
“Mourning continues until tomorrow. So, whoever comes today and tomorrow, is still part of the mourning.”
