GREATRIBUNETVNEWS—President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that Nigeria has achieved its annual revenue target, primarily driven by non-oil sectors, and no longer relies on domestic bank loans. This declaration was made during a meeting with members of the Buhari Organisation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, at the Presidential Villa.
Key Highlights:
– Revenue Target Met: Nigeria’s annual revenue target was met in August, thanks to robust non-oil revenue performance.
– No Domestic Borrowing: Tinubu proudly stated, “Today I’m standing before you, I can brag that Nigeria is not borrowing a dime from local banks.”
– Job Creation Priority: The President emphasized job creation as a priority, outlining plans to boost economic growth and development .
Future Plans:
– Agricultural Mechanization: Tinubu announced a nationwide agricultural mechanization initiative aimed at achieving food sovereignty and reducing poverty.
– Economic Growth: The President expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic prospects, stating, “The economy is stabilised, nobody is trading piece of paper for exchange rate anymore. We are going up” .
Despite this breakthrough, Nigeria’s debt profile continues to raise concerns, with the country’s total public debt standing at N149.39 trillion as of March 31, 2025
Reflecting on his alliance with former President Muhammadu Buhari, Tinubu said, “We disagreed to agree. We even argued on a symbol. When I see people like you, my determination is to work harder.” He praised CPC members for their loyalty despite not receiving political appointments and promised to reward them with ambassadorial roles.
Tinubu outlined plans for agricultural mechanization to ensure food security, stating, “I have just signed up for a huge mechanization program that every region will have a mechanized center for agricultural mechanization and have trainees and all of that. I believe that is our path to food sovereignty and food security. If we remove hunger, we have defeated poverty.”
Al-Makura, speaking for TBO, reaffirmed the CPC bloc’s support for Tinubu’s administration, pledging to mobilize for the APC’s success in 2027.
He stated, “Mr. President, you and President Muhammadu Buhari shared more than a political alliance; you shared a vision of a Nigeria built on justice, economic sovereignty, and good governance. Together, you conceptualised and built a platform that remains our pride and our cause.”
House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas emphasized the CPC’s unity, saying, “Indeed, today is the very first time that former members of the CPC have gathered in such large numbers to visit our President, to show support and appreciation for what he has been doing. I want to seize this opportunity, Mr. President, to assure you of the unconditional support of all former members of the CPC.”
He dismissed claims of division within the bloc and praised Tinubu’s respect for Buhari’s legacy, adding, “CPC in every state will go back home and mobilise support for Asiwaju. That movement will cascade down to local government areas, wards, and units. Insha Allah, CPC members will be at the forefront of ensuring your re-election in 2027 so you can continue the good work you are doing.”
The delegation included former CPC leaders such as Barr. Abdulraheem Adebayo Shittu, Architect Waziri Bulama, Prof. Haruna Hima, Hon. Garba Datti Mohammed, and others, representing a broad coalition of former governors, ministers, lawmakers, and party executives.
