“JUDGMENT DAY APPROACHES: COURT SETS NOVEMBER 20 FOR NNAMDI KANU’S TERRORISM TRIAL”

GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20 as the date for judgment in the terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Justice James Omotosho announced the date after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days granted by the court .
Kanu, who is representing himself, had filed a motion challenging the court’s jurisdiction and the competence of the charges, arguing that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act under which he was charged had been repealed. The judge ruled that Kanu’s refusal to present his defence meant he could not claim his right to a fair hearing had been violated
At Friday’s proceedings, Kanu also filed a motion challenging the legality of his trial, arguing that terrorism was no longer an offence in Nigeria following the repeal of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act.
