DEATH SENTENCE SOUGHT FOR NNAMDI KANU: KEY ISSUES

GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–THE Federal Government has demanded a death sentence for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following his conviction on terrorism charges. Here are the key issues:
– Conviction on Terrorism Charges : Kanu was found guilty on all seven counts of terrorism, including incitement to kill security operatives and destruction of public infrastructure.
– Death Sentence Requested : The Federal Government’s counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, urged the court to impose the maximum penalty, citing the severity of Kanu’s crimes.
– No Remorse Shown : Awomolo stated that Kanu showed no remorse during the trial and instead displayed a militant and arrogant attitude.
– Properties to be Forfeited : The Federal Government has requested that all properties seized from Kanu be forfeited.
– Possible Sentencing : The court is expected to deliver its sentencing decision, with counts 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 carrying a death sentence, count 3 carrying a 20-year imprisonment, and count 7 carrying a 5-year jail term
The prosecution counsel also demanded that Kanu be taken to prison where his security will be guaranteed till when the judgment against him would be executed.
