The palace said traditional institutions have a role to play in supporting law enforcement as attacks intensify in parts of Edo.

In a related move, the Benin Traditional Council will host youth leaders, known as Okaighele, the following day, Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the same time and venue.
Palace officials said the session with youth leaders will focus on mobilizing grassroots support for peace and security.
The back-to-back meetings signal the palace’s direct intervention as Edo grapples with rising abductions and cult clashes.
Traditional rulers across Nigeria have increasingly stepped in to bridge gaps between communities and security agencies amid growing public frustration over insecurity.
