2. Arrests Revealed by CP Bode Ojajuni at Eleweran Headquarters
_”The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the arrests during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.”
3. Detectives Crack Case Using Intelligence, Forensics + Technical Tracking
_”According to the police chief, the breakthrough followed extensive intelligence gathering, forensic examination, and technical tracking efforts carried out by detectives investigating the double homicide.”
Oyesiku and Adetayo were reportedly found dead at the retired broadcaster’s residence in Owode-Egba on June 21. A Lexus RX 330 belonging to the deceased was also discovered missing from the premises after the incident.
Ojajuni explained that officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received a distress report around 4 p.m. on the day of the discovery, alerting them to suspicious activities at the residence.
He said preliminary findings revealed that the front door of the building had been tampered with, while the security post within the compound was locked, prompting an immediate police response.
Upon arriving at the scene, detectives found Adetayo dead inside the security house, while Oyesiku’s body was discovered in a pool of blood in the living room of the main residence.
“The scene was professionally processed, and initial investigations indicated that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 had been taken away, suggesting that robbery may have been linked to the murders,” Ojajuni said.
The commissioner disclosed that investigators recovered the missing vehicle on June 22 through intelligence-led operations and technical surveillance.
He added that a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the crime scene became a vital lead in the investigation.
According to him, although the vehicle’s ignition key had been removed and its number plates detached, detectives later recovered one of the registration plates concealed beneath a seat, enabling them to confirm ownership.
Ojajuni noted that forensic examination of the handwritten note yielded crucial clues that eventually led investigators to the suspects.
The principal suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in the Ibara GRA area of Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
The police commissioner said Philip confessed during interrogation and admitted recruiting the other two suspects to participate in the crime.
He further revealed that the suspect claimed he orchestrated the attack because of grievances he harboured from his period of employment as a security guard for the deceased.
“The suspect stated that his intention was to ‘teach her a lesson,’” Ojajuni said.
Investigators were told that the suspects struck on June 20, first subduing Adetayo before using him to gain access to Oyesiku’s residence.
After entering the house, they allegedly attacked and killed the retired broadcaster before also murdering the security guard.
They subsequently fled with the victim’s vehicle, which was later recovered in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
The police also recovered several items believed to be linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, and a black pen.
Ojajuni stated that despite the confessional statements and exhibits recovered, investigations remained ongoing to strengthen the case and ensure a thorough prosecution.
He assured residents that the command would pursue justice for the victims and ensure that everyone connected with the killings was brought before the law.
