
BREAKING:”ANSARU COMMANDER SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR TERRORISM FINANCING AND KUJE PRISON BREAK INVOLVEMENT”
GREATRIBUNETVNEWS–A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted and sentenced Mahmud Usman, a commander of the proscribed Ansaru terrorist group, to 15 years imprisonment. Usman, also known as Abu Bara’a, Abbas, or Mukhtar, pleaded guilty to charges of engaging in illegal mining activities and channeling the proceeds to purchase arms for terrorism and kidnapping operations .
Key Details of the Case:
– Terrorism Activities: Usman and his associate, Abubakar Abba, allegedly carried out terrorist attacks, including an assault on the Nigerian Army’s Wawa Cantonment in Kainji, Niger State, resulting in multiple casualties.
– Illegal Mining: Proceeds from the illicit trade were used to acquire arms and ammunition for terrorist operations.
– Kuje Prison Break: Usman was linked to the July 2022 Kuje prison break that freed over 600 inmates, including Boko Haram fighters.
– Additional Charges: Usman faces 31 other terrorism-related charges and will remain in DSS custody pending trial .
Court Proceedings:
– Guilty Plea: Usman’s guilty plea led to the 15-year jail term.
– Sentence: Justice Emeka Nwite handed down the sentence and ordered Usman to remain in DSS custody.
