_”The rescue operation of the abducted teachers and students of Ahoro-Esinele/Yawota axis of Oriire local government has become complicated as the suspected bandits are now using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to ward off being encircled.”
_”The bandits shot rapidly at them but the bullets could not penetrate most of the security members and so they resorted to the use of IEDs, which caught the rescue force off guard leading to the death of one and some others injured,” one of the victims taken for treatment at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, reportedly informed.”
2. Security Team Located Bandits Near Igbeti Before Attack
_”On Saturday evening a combined team of soldiers, Amotekun Corps members, Agro-Rangers men and local hunters located the bandits at a hill near Igbeti, with the abductees and were advancing on them.”_
_”In fact, the cry of the children filtered into our ears. The hunters who were familiar with the terrain had suggested that they disembark from their motorcycles but the soldiers rebuffed the suggestion. So, I think that alerted the bandits who quickly attacked us, perhaps we could have launched a sneak attack on them catching them unawares.”
3. Abducted School Officials Appear in Viral Video Pleading for Help
_”A viral video Sunday morning shows the principal of the Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, and a teacher of the private school, both who were among the abductees, appealing for help.”
4. State Mobilizes Traditional Leaders and Government Response
_”Emergency meeting of traditionalists summoned, Oyo Dep Gov to visit.”
That confirms the narrative that the bandits are trapped and are at their wits end on how to escape. Hence, they want a negotiated settlement.
Meanwhile, a high-level security meeting is ongoing at an undisclosed location in Ogbomoso with traditional rulers and traditionalists, on how to break the stalemate.
In the same vein, an unverified report put the number of abducted persons at 7 teachers and 39 students/pupils with most of the pupils under ten years.
Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that during search efforts, terrorists used Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) against rescue teams. A few soldiers and hunters were wounded but are currently recovering. Tragically, a Mathematics teacher Mr Michael, held in captivity was murdered by the terrorists.
